Watered first thing this morning. Planters almost all around got some drink. The bamboo was given several 3L cans of water, the last containing fish emulsion and SuperThrive. I don't think plant dynamite would be appropriate for this plant.
I'm going shopping for a bamboo palm this weekend. It will be housed in the large square planter I purchased recently, behind center handrail, under portico (for lack of a better term, it is a roof which covers about 1/3 of the terrace with 3 open walls the interior wall is the side of the building). See below. You can see center handrail here though it all looks bare as this was fairly early on in my efforts. The roof is a godsend in the summer months.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Mandevilla. They make spectacular blooming vines that would quickly cover your railing. Readily available at Lowes and Home Depot in the $7-14 range. "Alice DuPont" is the most popular and beautiful (IMO). It is pink with a white edge and pushes out hundreds of blooms. There is also a very deep red and a white cultivar. The white is a very productive bloom producer while the red less so but more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey are tropical vines and love the heat and humidity. Caution, the "Alice DuPont" can not tolerate any chlorine while the others can. (Most L and HD stores water with city water which has chlorine. I would not purchase a AD that has been sitting around many weeks watered with chlorine.) It has to be watered with dechlorinated water which is easily done by leaving the water sit in a bucket for a day or by treating with sodium thiosulfate. The ST is very cheap on Ebay. I haven't seen any Mandevilla at L or HD over the last month but if the weather stays warm, they will start to stock them.
