A couple of clear hot days have been forcast. I gave everyone a nice drenching to get them through the day.
A friend said recently that he thought the secret to his green thumb (and he has one) was simply watching the plants. Watching, paying attention to their needs. There is a fine line between this and fussing which can be a killer.
Some of the Carribean King rhizomes are throwing up leaves from the front of the bus, which is where most leaves form on rhizomes. It has taken quite a while seeing that these were quite mature, large rhizomes.
I'm trying to restrain myself from ordering 2 begonias from Glasshouse Works- Fred, a giant leaved rhizo with shiny beefsteak type leaves and b. 'listada' a species that has a mallet shaped leaf with a deep green body and cream highlights running across the leaves.
I'm going to PHOE on 5/21 which will be the Miami Begonia Society meeting. I have to hold off until i see what they have. Though i don't think i remember seeing either the last time i was down there.
